Quick Start Guide

  1. Install the Blender Addon — Download the latest .zip file from GitHub Releases. In Blender, go to Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Install and select the zip file.
  2. Enable the Addon — Search for "BlendMotion" in the addon list and check the box to enable it.
  3. Check the Preflight Checklist — Open the BlendMotion panel in the 3D viewport sidebar (N key). The Preflight Checklist will automatically verify your IP address, active camera, port availability, and scene FPS.
  4. Install the iPhone App — Download BlendMotion from the App Store.
  5. Connect — Copy your IP address from the checklist (click the 📋 button), enter it in the iPhone app, and tap Connect.
  6. Start & Record — Click Start in the Blender panel. Move your iPhone in landscape to control the camera. Tap Record to capture keyframes on the timeline.
💡 Tip: You don't need to find your IP manually anymore! The Preflight Checklist shows your local IP automatically with a one-click copy button. Just paste it into the iPhone app.
📷 Tip: Always hold your iPhone in landscape orientation (sideways) for the best tracking results. This matches Blender's camera orientation and gives you natural, cinematic motion. Hold your iPhone in landscape orientation
📶 Tip: Make sure your iPhone and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. BlendMotion communicates over your local network via UDP — if the devices are on different networks, they won't be able to find each other. Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network

Troubleshooting

Can't connect? Check the Preflight Checklist first — it flags most issues automatically. Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and your firewall isn't blocking the UDP port.

Laggy tracking? Close other apps on your iPhone and reduce the distance to your Wi-Fi router for a stronger signal. Use a 5GHz network if available.

Addon not showing up? Make sure you're running Blender 4.0 or later. Try restarting Blender after installation.

No active camera? The Preflight Checklist will warn you if your scene has no camera. Add one with Shift+A → Camera and set it as active.
